Breaking News : 24 Cancelled According to Jon Cassar

March 26th, 2010

It’s probably rather fitting that we can pin point to the minute when news broke that 24 was cancelled. Almost exactly 25 minutes ago Jon Cassar (former Executive Producer/Director Seasons 1 – 7) posted the following on his twitter page…

News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching

It seems highly unlikely that Jon would post such news if he wasn’t 100% sure, although it would appear that the crew was only told the news today because Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) posted the following about 8 hours ago…

we haven’t been officially told anything about the fate of 24

Previously Mary Lynn had posted that production had begun on episodes 23 & 24 of the Eighth Season.

There still remains the possibility of a film in the future i’d assume, however a Ninth Season on either Fox or NBC isn’t going to happen.

You’ve just beat me to it, Dan. I’ve just read Jon’s twitter post and was going to make a post here myself. The news is real, Rodney Charters also posted on his twitter that

24 finally cancelled after 9 amazing years may it live on in DVD for years to come thanks to the fans for following Kiefer and all of us behind the scenes for all those seasons

    and mary-lynn rajskub confirmed that

Just found out we got the word officially. This is 24’s last season

Just a side thought here: Isn’t it strange somehow that we’re getting breaking news on something as mundane as TWITTER?

Either way, it looks like the right decision has been made in this case. As much as I loved the show, it’s time for it to end. Now, it seems, some of us will have to find a new show to watch, or a new drug, or a life ;o). Keep yer chin up, lads. Life goes on.

This is the worst news I’ve heard in a long time.

I’ve never tuned in to 24 and been disappointed. Even through that Day 6. I disagree with anyone who says it should end. It should go on forever. 😛 TV is steadily going downhill, and this is just another pitch forward.

It seems like I’ll have to rethink my cable subscription.

[…] the first that had that effect. But from interviews I’ve read in the past 48 hours, since the announcement of 24’s cancellation, it seems like Kiefer and Howard Gordon are actually proud of the second half of the show. One of […]
