Football Manager 2008

Hey, just wondered if there where any football manager addicts around. I ask now because sometime tomorrow the demo for the new version "2008" will be released online. And i'm kinda going crazy insane waiting for it as I want cold turkey on 2007 for the past two weeks as I gave my copy of it to my brother after he bought a laptop.

So, anybody else?, if not i'll go and stare at the clock in the corner by myself.

Re: Football Manager 2008

Im right with you my man.
i LOVE it, i LIVE for it. me and my friend play it for HOURS.
We've even played it for a solid weekend before, sad i know but it's so addictive and chews up so much time.

Im still playing and loving 2007 but may well be tempted with 2008.

Keep me informed what the demo is like

Re: Football Manager 2008

I played the demo for a solid 8 hours on sunday. It's a little odd to get used to. It's got a new skin and layout which is splitting people 50/50 on whether they like it or not.

As usual it new features which I'm soon I won't be able to live without, although for the moment a few small things bother me, very tiny things really, but things that became part of my habits in playing 2007.

Also the demo only allows 6 months of play, so you kind of forget about long term plans. So if you have a decent save game going in 2007 i'd keep playing that as it's kinda hard to go back from the demo to the previous version.

FYI, they don't have a solid date for releasing the full version, but it'll be a month at most.

Re: Football Manager 2008

Oh ok.
Well my friend has downloaded the demo and is gonna do me a copy so i'll give it a quick try.
Although, as you say, i have a few good save games on 2007 that i may just stick with.
And i now have fifa 2008 which is keeping me amused

Re: Football Manager 2008

They've just posted a trailer on youtube @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOwybu4IhR0
Doesn't give you much about gameplay, it's more to get you in the mood to play the game.

Re: Football Manager 2008

The game has officially been released, a day early after some shops started selling it early, so the developer told everyone they could sell it.

Just got my copy from Game, £25, quite reasonable for a high street shop.

Re: Football Manager 2008

I really don't like any sort of manager games, in my opinion they are very boring and don't get the player involved how a video game should.

Re: Football Manager 2008

I can defintely see that point of view, although you might be surprised how involving the latest generation of these games can be. I do at times have to hide my Football Manager disc when I need to get some uni work done, because once I start playing it's quite hard to stop.

That's cool, I haven't really played any of the newer versions of the game so I couldn't give a fully thought out verdict for the game.

Also I noticed you said that you hide the disc to get university work done... university in London, that must be hard on the bank account, smile.

Re: Football Manager 2008

Hey Dan, you well?

Do you suffer the "Newcastle" syndrome in Football Manager?
That being you hardly ever ever ever beat them?
Well in last years version anyway, i've played 4 or so seasons, so will have played Newcastle approx 8 times and have won.............................NONE.
Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Valencia, Arsenal, Bayern, all beaten.
And it's the same in all the games i have going.

Re: Football Manager 2008

Yeah, i'm good.

I do certainly have bogey teams, teams you just can't beat, despite no clear reason why.

Sometimes I think it's that they've figured out my tactics, so I holiday the game and let my assistant take charge. Can be quite effective in "breaking a cycle".

Re: Football Manager 2008

I hadnt thought of that, nice work.
The one time i did beat Newcastle i had been banned from the touchline so couldnt do tactics, subs, team talks so maybe that caught them off guard!
Good thinking, im on it :-)

Re: Football Manager 2008

Yeah, it can be an effective tool, although use it sparingly, too many times and the team gets used to the assistant's tactics instead of yours.
