Season 6 UK DVD

The season 6 UK DVD was released on monday, with a lot less fan fare than usual it has to be said, as Prison Break Season 2 released a week earlier still takes up most of Fox’s promotional power.

And while you could question why this is, “not up to 24’s usual standard” etc., the list of extras does still look impressive and could well be the best set we’ve ever had if documentaries “Inside The Writers Room” & “Opening With A Bang” can live up to the 90 minute making of seen on the Season 2 release.

From what I can tell the UK Region 2 release carries exactly the same list of extras as the U.S. release due in December will. I’ll update this post if there’s any significant developments on that, and i’ll have a full review up on the site once my copy arrives.

More Season 7

The latest details to come out of the Fox announcement and everything else has been added to the Day 7 page. Read at your own discretion, and be warned, if you where just taking in a few spoilers for the new season, but promised you’d stop before the big stuff hit, now is the time to stop. Read the new details and there ain’t no turning back.

You’ve been warned.

Big Fox Announcement Coming?

According to the ‘”official” unofficial’ blog HQ, there is a big Fox announcement on the new season about to drop today. It may be official word on cast and other details already leaked, but in all likelihood it will fill in some blanks, at least those which Fox Promotion want and The 24 Producers have agreed to fill in.

There could also be soming big in the announcement, follow the source link for more hints on what that could be.

S6 DVD News

News has sprung forth about the Season 6 DVD’s, as yesterday Fox released a Press Release and DVD cover image for the region 1 boxset. The special features list is quite impressive, including the now customary 12 episode commentaries, which is welcome news, although some of the choses for commentaries still baffle me and having no commentary on the final episode I think is a mistake. But it looks like they’ve attempting to make up for with the other extras, which include 25 deleted scenes, vieweable in three different ways. Also included is a “alternate ending”, which sounds very exciting, given the various rumours which where flying round the internet about ending for S6, all of which weren’t true, maybe we’ll find out they were “almost true”.

It should be noted that this is for the region 1 american release, I have no concrete info that these details will be the same for the UK R2 release, although that Fox can confirm these details almost a month before the UK release hopefully means every is ready to go on a UK boxset.

The UK release is the 1st of October while the US release is the 4th of December, follow link below for more details

Production Delayed Again

Fresh reports surfaced last night about production delays to the new season. At first I thought it was simply a re-reporting of the earlier delay but this morning it has become clear that there has indeed been a second production delay. The first came after the decision was passed down from FOX that ambitious plans to shoot some scenes in Africa would be too expensive, leading to a page one re-write and a production delay of a month (late August instead of late July).

The exact reason for the second delay is as yet unknown, but it will likely see production now start in roughly three weeks. Though several sources go with a slightly vague “more scripts need to be finished”, possibly suggesting the first four episodes, though wording in another article “enough scripts for the new seasonlong plot” – (reuters.com) leaves me with the faint hope of the writers going for more forward planning, indeed possibly demanding it before production can start.

One article is brave enough to mention the elephant in the room, the question if these production delays will mean it’s premiere date of the 13th of January will have to be moved back or change its usual 4 episodes over 2 night premiere format. Though with fans likely to need convincing of the many changes made to the show, the 4in2 format would help draw skeptical fans and so FOX will not make that call unless they have no other choice.

News From Comic Con Panel

For the first time in the shows history, they’ve had a panel at Comic Con, and more interesting opinions about series 6 from the writers themselves, and details about series 7 have emerged or been confirmed. Some none spoilery bits from the various coverage on the internet below, follow links for more spoilery info.

All four producers agreed that season 6 was a disappointment, a turnaround from the FOX executives who defended the quality of the latest season earlier this week at the Television Critics Association press tour … About Charles Logan, they reassured fans that unless you see someone die, they’re probably not dead … In regards to the idea of a 24 movie, the producers were rather candid.  They will most likely do it after the final season, otherwise there would be a compromise and they would have to outsource either the show or the film, as they couldn’t handle both.  As for the format, they said the first hour would be just like a regular movie, but that the real-time format would kick in about half-way through … The producers desperately wanted to cast Donald Sutherland as Jack’s father last season, but couldn’t get the deal to work.

There was also a little tidbit which got some people very excited, though it wasn’t the first we’ve heard this rumour on the internet, which first emerged near the end of last season. A detailed article on it follows.
